The unofficial guide to climb the corporate ladder!

Climbing the corporate ladder

We recently discussed the importance of gender equity in addition to gender equality in my blog 8 reasons why gender equity is important!

We notice that though there is much greater awareness on these topics, most women are still struggling to climb the corporate ladder. Let’s see what is in our control to enhance our provision:

  1. Work hard. There is simply no alternate to working hard. No corporate would want an employee who doesn’t seem to care!
  2. Observe your role model pertinent to your role and industry and try to emulate the learnings but don’t be a copycat. Make it YOURS!
  3. Make sure your work speaks for itself. Every organization wants a rich base of assets. Your top quality delivery will fast track you up the elevator.
  4. Educate yourself on the available career paths for your growth.
  5. Network with your women peers and learn from their stories as well as share yours.
  6. Enhance your position in the company by delivering high quality work which others are not able to/ don’t want to do.
  7. Measure your strengths as well as shortcomings and work on improvements accordingly.
  8. Prepare yourself for unannounced opportunities. Opportunities seldom knock doors.
  9. Oblige yourself by becoming a continuous learner.
  10. Work in the front field. Get your hands dirty but don’t hesitate to learn the tricks of your trade first-hand.
  11. Empower more women to focus on themselves and their individual growths.
  12. Repeat your set milestone path if you face setback. Learn from the setback and implement edits to your strategy to overcome.
  13. Mentors will help you lead your path with sound advice. Find women leaders around you.
  14. Expect nothing, do everything. Work with a good mind and soul and don’t fixate on returns.
  15. Never apologize or compromise for what’s not right according to your own rulebook.
  16. Treat yourself like a queen, simply because YOU ARE!

I decided to capture the above thoughts in acrostic form of writing to represent WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.
