8 reasons why gender equity is important!

Gender equity

We all have either heard or spoken on gender inequality at some point in our life. Social construction of this process has existed for centuries, possibly since start of humankind.

While our society has transformed and transitioned to bridge this inequality to some extent over the years, we still witness some bias, especially when it comes to the WoMEN, as I put it in World of Men.

I stand for W.E. (Women Empowerment) and I strongly feel that in addition to focusing our energies on bridging the gender inequality gap, we should also focus on building stronger gender equity. So let us see why and how gender equity could be the foundation of building a progressive and content society:

(1) Gender equity is an important instrument towards achieving gender equality

(2) Gender equity is focused on being fair to both men and women, free of any biases and focused on the needs

(3) There has been a global forward movement in favor of gender equality. Almost 68% of the countries included in the World Economic Forum’s research made great strides towards improving gender parity scores for 2019 (Fortune.com). Now with focus on gender equity, the shortcomings of society can be overcome

(4) Gender equity can enable the right instruments to women/men in order for them to succeed

(5) Gender equity will ensure the right rendering by race, class, gender, etc.

(6) While gender equality will provide equal opportunities to women, gender equity will provide the precise opportunities which will drive women towards meaningful equality

(7) Gender equity in fields like education, science, technology, healthcare but not limited to these alone will propagate equal salary and compensation for same work and set newer standards

(8) During this pandemic, we already see some positive efforts towards building gender equity at home, where men have started taking more household responsibilities, leaving behind previously set biases

I stand for W.E, do you?
